A small blue and white jar from the Yuan dynasty (Mongol) found in Siam

In the 13th century, Kublai Khan, the founder of the Yuan dynasty, announced a policy to create wealth for the Yuan dynasty. The Khan who ruled China took control of the export market by monopolizing both land and sea routes.

As a result, the Silk Road, which had been closed during the Song dynasty, was revived again, resulting in the production of enamelware, which could once again use cobalt from Persia.

The black patterns that were used to draw were replaced with the dark blue from Persia. This blue was not just used to simply add color like in the Tang dynasty, and this color was also used to replace the techniques of scratching and pressing.

This small jar was produced in Jingdezhen in the mid-14th century. It is a blue and white pattern with branches, leaves, and flowers. The patterns are drawn in simple lines, with short brushstrokes and pointed tips, in the style of the Yuan dynasty family of craftsmen.

The special shape is that the two sides of the jar's ears are molded flat and then rolled onto the neck of the jar. The bottom of the jar is not coated. The jar is 5 cm tall.

This jar is a valuable example of Yuan dynasty porcelain. It is a reminder of the flourishing trade between China and the West during this period.
